EV MX-5 Sold!

The car has been sold, this page is online only for historical purposes. Thanks!

It’s finally time to sell my EV Miata conversion project- after several years of working on it, bringing it to a fairly complete state (these projects are never really done…) I have turned my attention to other pursuits and would like to see someone with fresh enthusiasm for the project continue to realize its potential.

Here are the basic specifications:
Donor vehicle: 1994 M-edition Mazda MX5 Miata, black w/ tan leather, with factory hard-top
Motor: Netgain WarP 9″ motor
Controller: Cafe Electric Z1k LV (Pre-EV Components, can be upgraded to HV, EHV)
DC/DC: Belktronix 600W
Charger: Manzanita Micro PFC-20
Battery pack: 12x Optima Yellow Top D34 55AH
Battery regulators: Rudman Mk 3
Suspension: Ground control coilovers, KYB AGX shocks with heavy springs.
Motor adapter plate: Electro-Automotive, with new Exedy clutch
Instrumentation: Cycle-Analyst with Deltec shunt
Vacuum system: 12V Thomas pump, SMC switch
Towing: Rennenmetal tow-bar bracket with tow-bar setup (easy flat towing)

It is currently in driving condition, though the battery pack is in fair-to-bad shape and range is extremely limited. This car would be fantastic fun with Lithium cells- and the time is right now with the A123 20AH pouches and modules flooding the market for cheap, and as the communities gain experience with the Hobbyking LiPo. Both are options that require care but deliever great performance at low price, and should be a reasonably easy upgrade. Back of the envelope ball-park estimate- the cells to build a kick-ass Leaf killing high power, 100 mile range pack is likely somewhere around $6-8K. Here are a couple of Endless-sphere threads that I found inspiring to this effect- http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=38901 and http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=38171

I would like to set $8000 as a starting point asking price- contact me if you’re interested in more information, to be shown the car or would like to make an offer. This is somewhere around half what I have in the car, and truly I believe it’s a good deal on a great platform to start from- I believe the vast majority of the work on the car is solid and sound and an excellent basis to build a great, fun and useful car with much less investement than starting from scratch! These cars have gained a lot of popularity for conversions recently- there is more support than ever.

All of my spare parts for and documentation of the car will be included with the sale.

Thanks, -Henry
