About

My name is Henry Herndon. I’m a student, living in the Bay Area, California.

February, 2010: The site’s been up for about a year. I started it a few months after leaving UC Davis. I’m in my third semester at Laney now, continuing in Machine Tech, manual and CNC. My goal has been to be productive on my own, self directed and self motivated. I have been succeeding in some ways and finding more difficulty than expected in others. I have worked on some pretty neat projects and deepened my knowledge of many things I’m interested in, as well as moved my thinking along about what goals, plans and values are most important and beneficial in my near and longer term future. I haven’t been as consistently effective or focussed over the last year as I might have hoped, but all in all I believe that it’s been an important year for me in many ways. I have found inspiration and importance in the pursuit of practical, efficient personal transportation. It’s a direction I plan on working on in the next months and year.

As of March, 2009: I have been out of high school only a couple of years- After graduating from Berkeley High I spent a year and a quarter at UC Davis in Engineering, but recently decided to leave to follow my interests for a bit- If I want to, I’ll go back.

I am currently attending school at Laney college in Oakland, primarily for their machine tech program. I don’t know if it’s my life fulfilling destination, but I’m enjoying it a lot right now. I’m also working on my independent projects, trying to feel out how I can be most effective at getting stuff done in my everyday life. I really figure that I want to focus on maximizing my accomplishment of anything that I am proud of and find satisfying- inside or outside of school. If I’m getting stuff done, I think it’s a success. I was prompted to consider leaving Davis after being frustrated by feeling that I was wasting time. Not worth it. I’m still in search of the situation or gig that will work best for me- I’m not grown up yet, I haven’t put my eggs in any particular basket yet.

An important part of the plan is getting organized- writing stuff down- documenting and publishing, building some sort of portfolio, some concrete record of my time. That’s why I started the site. I have grand plans for a project oriented web app that I intend to build sometime soon, but I decided it was important to just get the site started on a stable, low maintenance platform so that I could start adding content.

So, read around, hope you find my writing interesting, and helpful to whatever you may be trying to do. Pick from the “categories” list to filter posts by their topic.
